About
What to Expect
My practice is trauma-informed, LGBTQ+ affirming, weight neutral, sex positive, and polyamory and kink friendly!
You can expect me to be enthusiastically curious about you! I can’t wait to learn about your strengths and your passions (and your pets’ names and your favorite TV show). You can expect me to laugh and cry with you. I believe you deserve to be celebrated. I consider it an honor to bear witness to your pain and your joy.
I know that trying to find a therapist and begin therapy can be scary. I would love to facilitate you learning more about yourself, in a space that is free from judgment. I aim for our time together to feel safe, even when therapy is challenging, and I want you to be able to show up as your most authentic self, even if you haven’t shown that self to the world yet.
I think therapy should be collaborative, so we’ll work together to determine what you want out of our time together and what goals we’re going to work toward. Therapy can be about thoughts and feelings, and it can also be about problem-solving practical matters in your life. I’m happy to walk beside you and look into the deepest existential questions, or tackle having that hard conversation you’ve been avoiding, and everything in between.
I want to help you create a life that reflects your values, and to feel less controlled by thoughts and emotions. It’s also my hope that by receiving validation and acceptance, you may come to offer that to yourself.
About Me
I’m a person-centered therapist primarily using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy with aspects of existential and narrative therapy. My approach is oriented toward positive psychology, feminist therapy, and mindfulness. I believe that I can’t adequately support my clients without acknowledging the impact systemic oppression has on the individual. I believe that it’s also important to recognize that racism, ableism, fatphobia, transphobia, and homophobia have always been part of the field of psychology and that an anti-oppression lens is necessary for a truly ethical practice. I prioritize demystifying and decolonizing therapy. It’s important to me to continue to learn and grow in these areas.
My background
I’ve worked in mental health since 2000 and have been providing therapy in private practice since 2011. In addition to being a therapist, I’ve worked in victim advocacy, correctional mental health, and military family services. I’ve overseen clinical services at two counseling agencies, once of which I founded and operated with my business partner. I also taught university psychology courses for 8 years, which included Theories of Counseling, Social Psychology, Clinical Health, and Scientific and Technical Writing. I provide training and workshops to other mental health professionals.
My Credentials
I have a bachelors degree in psychology from Oklahoma City University and a masters degree in forensic psychology from the University of Denver. I’m a Licensed Behavioral Practitioner in the state of Oklahoma.
